Second-hand baby gear: Tips
Your layette costs a lot of money. Second-hand is a good option to save costs, but then of course you do not know what has happened to it, whether it has been tinkered with and whether the product still meets the safety standards. How safe is it to buy baby equipment second hand?
Safely rent second-hand baby equipment and save up to 70% (and it’s sustainable too)!
At BabyLoop we offer (future) parents the opportunity to rent second-hand baby equipment online. This is better for the environment because less raw materials need to be used and products need to be produced. We also check whether the products still meet the latest safety standards. It saves your storage space, because where do you put all those things that you only need for a short time?
You don’t have to scour the entire marketplace for hours and pick up the product somewhere. No, it will be delivered to your home within 1 working day (if in stock and ordered before 3 p.m.). You also save storage space; because where do you put all those things that you only need for a short time?
After all, renting is a lot cheaper than buying. Especially when you consider that a co-sleeper is used on average for about 3 months and a baby nest only 2 months! Our second-hand baby products can be canceled monthly.
And renting is also a lot cheaper than buying. In general, leasing evokes the association that it is super expensive and that it is better to buy all the baby equipment if you want to go for more than 1 child. But first take a good look at our subscription prices. A small calculation example to illustrate the affordability of BabyLoop:
A new Stokke Newborn set costs €104. With an average use of 4 months it will cost you in rent €7.90 x 4 = €31.60. That is 32% of the original purchase amount and you are even cheaper than buying new, even with 3 children.
Second-hand baby product shop
In our online BabyLoop store you can rent new and second-hand baby equipment. The range includes products that you need for a few months and that are expensive to purchase, such as a co-sleeper or a Sleepyhead nest. These products are therefore also best suited for renting or purchasing second-hand. In addition, there are also products that not every baby is equally fond of. For example, a rocking chair. This one seems indispensable, but know that not all babies love it and that it sometimes sits unused in a corner. Renting to try out a product is therefore an excellent option!
If you would like to see the products and quality of these before you rent them, you can always visit our shop in Amsterdam. For example the ErgoBaby carrier. Send us a message in advance and we will make sure that the products you are interested in are ready for you!
Which products are less suitable for rental?
Clothing is often given as a gift, and you soon have too much. And of course you want to buy something for the baby yourself! Alternate second-hand and new items.
Another tip: don’t buy too much ‘growth’: not every baby grows at the same rate, so it is difficult to predict in which season he/she will wear which size.
You can use a 3-in-1 stroller from birth to 3 to 4 years. You can place a travel cot on it (to lie comfortably in), a child seat (from the moment they sit down) or a car seat.
